LEXINGTON, Ky. — Ole Miss (13-8, 2-6 Southeastern Conference) just couldn’t get anything going against Kentucky in an 89-57 road loss on Thursday night, the Rebels’ fourth straight setback. Shelby Gibson led the way with 15 points — just one point shy of her career best.
Madinah Muhammad added 13 points for her second straight game in double figures and her 11th this season, while Alissa Alston added 11 points. Gibson and Erika Sisk led the way on the glass with four rebounds each.
Ole Miss put together a 7-0 run behind six points from Gibson midway through the third quarter to cut into the Kentucky lead. Gibson’s third-quarter points put her in double figures for the seventh time this season and the second time in SEC play. Taylor Manuel was also a bright spot in the third frame, scoring six points. The Ole Miss bench scored 32 points and Rebel underclassmen accounted for 47 of Ole Miss’ 57 points.
Ole Miss couldn’t get anything to fall in the first half, shooting just 26.9 percent in the first half and scoring a season-low six points in the second quarter. The Wildcats took advantage of Ole Miss’ miscues and scored 22 points off 15 Ole Miss turnovers in the first half. Gibson and Muhammad led Ole Miss with seven and five points, respectively.
The Rebels scored the first basket of the game, but it was all Kentucky in the first quarter. The Wildcats rattled off eight straight points, forcing Ole Miss coach Matt Insell to take a timeout.
Ole Miss is back at The Pavilion at Ole Miss to host Georgia on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. with the game airing on SEC Network+ with Richard Cross and Lindsay Roy on the call.
