According to uncertified results, Calhoun City native Perry Van Bailey won Tuesday night’s runoff election to serve as Mississippi House Representative for District 23.
Bailey won against his opponent Colby Bollinger by about 30 votes across the district that covers parts of Lafayette, Calhoun, Pontotoc and Webster counties.
Bailey garnered 1,356 votes to Bollinger’s 1,324 votes.
Only 174 people cast their votes in Lafayette County on Tuesday. Bailey earned 91 votes, and Bollinger earned 83 votes.
The two were running for the seat formerly held by the late Rep. Andy Stepp, who died in December.
Bailey isn’t new to the job.
He served as Representative of District 23 from Feb. 14, 2023, to Jan. 2, 2024, after defeating Andrew Stepp in the special general runoff election on Jan. 31, 2023, by seven votes. Bailey ran for reelection during the 2023 general election but lost to Stepp.
