Storms possible on Easter Sunday

Residents planning outdoor Easter celebrations on Sunday should keep an eye on the sky, as showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop throughout the afternoon and evening.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, there’s a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in Oxford beginning after 1 p.m. The day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 81 degrees and south winds around 10 to 15 mph.

The risk of storms increases heading into the night, with a 60 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Conditions will remain mostly cloudy, with lows around 57 degrees and south-southwest winds near 10 mph.

Oxford falls within the Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) category on the severe weather outlook map, meaning severe storms, damaging wind gusts, and hail are possible. The NWS advises that residents should stay weather-aware throughout the day while the exact timing and threat areas may shift.
