According to court records, Reifers, 76, is the sole caretaker of his 84-year-old wife, who is wheelchair bound and dependent on oxygen.

The court found that Reifers has no criminal history and is a “well-respected retired addiction recovery therapist” with longtime ties to Oxford. Tollison reduced Reifers’ bond to $50,000.

Reifers was arrested after deputies arrived at 111 Heights Drive close to midnight on March 20 for a domestic disturbance call.

Deputies discovered Charlene Cook, 58, a transgender woman and Reifer’s stepdaughter, dead at the scene.

Reifers was taken into custody without incident and charged with first-degree murder.
