An Oxford man arrested in November for allegedly shooting and killing his caretaker has been indicted by a Lafayette County grand jury.
The grand jury handed down the indictment in February officially charging Herman Slack, 89, of Oxford, with first-degree murder.
According to the indictment, Slack is being charged with shooting Angela Cohan James, 53, who was hired to be Slack’s caretaker.
The shooting occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Slack’s residence at 209 Herman Drive.
Slack is out on bond.
On Feb. 21, Slack waived arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.
A trial date has not yet been set.
In January, James’ daughter, Lydia Holland, filed a wrongful death suit against Slack in the Lafayette County Circuit Court.
