The city of Oxford is moving forward with two major road projects aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing pedestrian safety.
On Tuesday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved a request from City Engineer John Crawley to begin soliciting bids for a pedestrian improvement project along South Lamar Boulevard.
The project will create a continuous pedestrian pathway along South Lamar, extending from Oxford Way to the Belk Boulevard roundabout.
“Our goal is to construct a multi-use pathway on the east side of the road, connecting it to the existing sidewalk at the traffic light,” Crawley said.
The engineering department aims to begin construction as soon as school lets out for the summer, ensuring completion before the new school year starts in August.
The Board also approved a bid request for the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Molly Barr Road and North Lamar Boulevard—an area commonly known as “Three-Way.”
“We hope to receive bids and begin construction right after school ends, allowing us to complete most of the work over the summer,” Crawley said. “While construction may extend into the fall and possibly winter, this timeline minimizes disruptions for businesses located at the intersection.”
