Falkner, Thompson, Babb win in Lafayette run-off election

Ley Falkner is Lafayette County’s newest Justice Court Judge.

Falkner garnered 832 votes to Deanna McLarty’s 368 votes Tuesday during the run-off election.

Falkner is a lifelong Lafayette County resident. After 31 years in nursing home administration, he retired and started Falkner Farms with his son, Reed.

After attending training, he will be sworn into office at the start of the new year.

There were a total of three races on Tuesday.

Also winning was incumbent Lafayette County school board member Judith Thompson who earned 253 votes in District 3 against Shane Russell who earned 145 votes.

Thomson has served on the School Board for more than 20 years and has worked in education as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal for the Oxford School District. She has also worked at ICS Early Head Start and IHL Barksdale Reading Institute.

In the race for Election Commissioner District 5, Tiffany Babb won with 347 votes against incumbent commissioner Debbie Black who garnered 275 votes.

Babb is a retired educator who taught in and served as an administrator for the Lafayette County School District and taught at the University of Mississippi in the School of Education.
