Ole Miss lands five on coaches preseason All-SEC team

Ole Miss placed five players on the coaches preseason All-SEC team.
A.J. Brown, Greg Little, Javon Patterson, DK Metcalf and Zedrick Woods were voted to the team released Thursday. Brown and Little were first-team selections while Patterson, Metcalf and Woods were named to the third team.
Defending league champion Georgia led the way with 12 selections followed by Alabama (10) and Auburn (9). The Crimson Tide had the most first-team selections with five. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
The preseason accolades are just the latest for Brown and Little, who were both named preseason first-team All-Americans by the Associated Press earlier this week and are on watch lists for various national awards. Both widely projected to be first-round picks in next year’s NFL Draft, Brown led the SEC in receiving yards (1,252) and touchdowns (11) last season while Little, a former five-star recruit, has been one of the league’s more dominant offensive linemen since taking over as the Rebels’ left tackle midway through his freshman season.
An Oxford native, Metcalf joins Brown in what many opine to be the SEC’s top receiving corps. In his first full collegiate season, the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder caught 39 passes for 646 yards and finished tied for second on the team with seven touchdown receptions.
Patterson is the veteran on an offensive line that returns all five starters from last season. A starter since his freshman season, the Rebels’ left guard enters his final season having played in 36 games with 30 starts and helped block for the SEC’s top passing offense last season.
Woods has been a mainstay on the back end of Ole Miss’ defense the past three seasons, drawing two starts as a freshman and starting all but one game at safety since. The 5-11, 203-pound senior finished fourth on the team with 64 tackles last season and has 152 tackles, 11 pass breakups and four interceptions for his career.
