On May 22, deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a walk-in complaint at the office of a sexual battery that took place in Lafayette County.

Investigators were called to the office to investigate the alleged incident further.

Investigators were able to establish probable cause for an arrest warrant for Elijah Joseph Wells, 27, of Oxford for sexual battery.

After the arrest warrant was issued, the suspect was taken into custody at his residence without incident.

The suspect was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. This is an ongoing investigation. The suspect was issued a bond of $40,000 by Justice Court.
