Lafayette County School District has announced the Teachers of the Year, an honor recognizing the outstanding educators within the district, chosen for their exceptional dedication and service by their fellow teachers.
These educators, who embody the district’s commitment to excellence, will be honored with a plaque by the school board, and the District Teacher of the Year will have the opportunity to apply for the MS Teacher of the Year.
Gloria Smith from Lafayette High School leads the honorees with 30 years of experience in mathematics education, marking her third receipt of this prestigious accolade. Arvy Allen represents Lafayette Elementary School, bringing 11 years of service, while Stuart Meagrow from the Oxford-Lafayette School of Applied Technology has been acknowledged for his 19 years of commitment. Annie Thomas from Lafayette Middle School and Jennifer Hewlett from Lafayette Upper Elementary School round out the group of distinguished recipients.
Each educator has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the honor, underscoring the supportive and collaborative culture among the district’s educators. As the Lafayette County School District celebrates them, their recognition serves as a testament to their professional dedication and the profound impact they have on their students.
Looking ahead, the school board’s presentation of plaques to these exemplary teachers is a prelude to the District Teacher of the Year selection, who will then compete on a state level. This process not only highlights individual achievements but also reflects the high standards of the district as a whole, which proudly upholds its motto, “Anchored to Excellence.”
