Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi received the Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold plus Quality Achievement Award.

The award was granted to Baptist North Mississippi by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. It recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Baptist Memorial – North Mississippi is receiving the award because they met specific measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. Those measures included evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.

The no. 5 cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability is a stroke in the United States, according to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. On average someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

Baptist Memorial – North Mississippi is a 217 bed hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. It offers a variety of services that include cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, home care and hospice as well as a 24-hour emergency department. 

The hospital moved into a five-story, 600,000 square-foot facility that offers expanded services. This includes a larger emergency department, advanced technology, and larger rooms for patients and their families. Baptist has invested around $700 million into the community since the hospital became affiliated with the Baptist system in 1989.
