Oxford man charged with stealing from vulnerable adult

An officer with the Oxford Police Department took a walk-in report on Nov. 12 regarding money being taken from a vulnerable adult out of her bank account.
Demarius Dontae Carothers, 35, of Oxford, was named as the suspect.
It came to the officer’s attention that over the span of 10 months, approximately $10,000 was CashApped out of the reporting party’s account.
A warrant for Carothers’ arrest was issued. Shortly after, Carothers was found with a stolen firearm in his possession and was discovered to be a convicted felon.
Carothers was charged with exploitation of a vulnerable person, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm.
