Larry Brown was one in a million. He struggled to graduate from Lafayette High due to his trouble with senior English. He had to go to summer school for his Commodore diploma, but he got it.
Soon, he was hired by the Oxford Fire Department.
He was popular with that close-knit crew of Lafayette County boys and might have stayed until retirement. But then, like others here before him, he found his pen and took off on a noted writing career.
“The Tula Years” saw Larry Brown shine bright. “Facing The Music” was his first hit, a series of short stories. The dusk jacket photograph was created the afternoon Larry came into Cofield’s Studio, got with Dad, and headed for Square Books’ balcony. Many books and money would follow.
Larry’s legacy includes the writing talents of his son, Shane. As Oxford’s writing future unfolds, he is one to keep an eye on. Cofield Press will be doing just that. Like father, like son, he loved Oxford.
