The Oxford Walmart is expanding its grocery pickup site, according to a site plan presented to the Oxford Planning Commission Monday.
The request was part of the consent agenda and was approved along with several other items and there was no discussion.
Walmart is building a freestanding second building to serve as a pick-up area for online grocery orders and will be located adjacent to the main store.
The proposed plan will increase the overall square feet of the development from 182,833 square feet to 189,252 square feet and will reduce the available parking spots from 879 to 813. However, the available parking is still above the required 631 spots.
The new building will be a one-story building at about 25 feet in height and will be designed to match the existing Walmart building.
The amount of parking lot area being demolished for this project triggered stormwater management. Due to the age of the existing detention ponds and limited information regarding their design, the city requested that a hydraulic analysis be performed.
Based on the results of the hydraulic analysis engineering recommends that instead of installing additional stormwater management facilities, the existing ponds be modified.
These modifications will provide more benefit to the city by repairing and improving the functionality of the existing ponds while implementing a new, more rigorous maintenance schedule.
