The Oxford Police Department responded to the North Mississippi Regional Center this morning in response to a visitor on campus who displayed a gun, according to the NMRC.
At approximately 9:50 a.m., OPD officers responded to NMRC for a report of a subject with a gun. When officers arrived, they found Tashan Keller, 24, of Abbeville walking around one of the buildings on campus. After speaking with Keller, officers discovered he had a concealed handgun tucked inside his waistband.
Keller is a convicted felon from a previous drug sale charge. He was placed into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
No reason for why Keller was on the NMRC campus has been released at this time.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, according to OPD.
“NMRC maintains a policy regarding campus lockdowns, and that policy was followed to ensure the safety of those on the campus,” said B.J. Davis, director of public information and volunteers.
