The Oxford Police Department responded to a wreck Monday at the intersection of Highway 6 and West Jackson Avenue.
The call came in at about 4:15 p.m. as a possible fatal wreck. However, the driver was resuscitated at the scene and taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in unknown condition.
The one-vehicle wreck is still under investigation and the cause is unknown.
Since the Mississippi Department of Transportation opened the new continuous flow intersection on April 29, the public hasn’t been overly receptive to the new design.
MDOT spokesman Jason Scott said Monday that the intersection is working “well.”
“There is just an extremely high volume of traffic that comes through it on a daily basis,” he said.
Scott said when wrecks happen it backs up the traffic more than usual on the busy intersection.
“Law enforcement has to clear the wreck while attempting to prevent another wreck from happening as best they can,” Scott said.
Scott said MDOT has no immediate plans to change or realign the intersection.
“However, we are continuously monitoring the conditions at the intersection,” he said. “MDOT wants to stress that the traveling public should use caution when approaching and traveling through this intersection.”
