The Oxford Police Department is continuing to evolve with technology and Monday’s announcement was another step in that direction. OPD is partnering with the Neighbors phone app to provide another way to keep the Oxford community informed and safe.
The app, which is created by the video doorbell and security system company Ring, allows people to monitor neighborhood activity, share crime and safety-related videos, photos and text-based posts as well as the ability to receive real-time safety alerts from their neighbors, local law enforcement and from Ring.
“Oxford Police Department has a community-oriented policing philosophy and provides around-the-clock patrols to our citizens,” an OPD spokesperson said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with ‘Neighbors’ by Ring which will provide an effective tool for our citizens to update their community and keep everyone aware of crime within their neighborhoods.”
To download the free app, which is available via iOS and Android, people can visit download.ring.com/oxford or by texting ‘OXFORDMS’ to 555888. Once the app is downloaded users will need to opt-in to their neighborhood and customize the geographic area they want to receive notifications for. The app provides a live feed and an interactive map for users to view local crime and safety posts.
OPD is the first law enforcement agency in Mississippi to join the Neighbors app.
