Hosting Pittsburgh and Nicholls State over the weekend for the Ole Miss Classic, the Rebels moved to 13-6 on the year and 4-0 at home with a Twin Bill Sweep. Mike Smith’s squad now has just one more tune-up game before the start of SEC play this weekend.

Ole Miss was dominant on the weekend, with only one of the four games really being all that close. The combined score of the four games: 18-4.

Saturday’s 4-3 win over Pitt was the only close game on the weekend, a scary one for the Rebels. The Panthers hit back-to-back home runs to start the game. Ava Tillmann, after starting the game at pitcher, was pulled before retiring a single batter. In relief, Brittany Finney went a full seven innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits.

It took a walk-off Saturday afternoon to complete the comeback over Pittsburgh. Trialing 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, an RBI single from Tate Whitley tied the game. In a bold play, Mikayla Allee pulled off a squeeze play to score Katelin Cooper, walking off with the Ole Miss win.

Closing out the series for the Rebels with a 2-0 win over Nicholls State was junior college transfer Molly Jacobson. She pitched a complete game shutout for the Rebels, going a full seven innings allowing just four hits. Following the shutout appearance, she now boasts a team-best 1.01 ERA on the year, throwing four complete games in six starts.

A fifth game on the series was scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. but was canceled due to a rainout. The Rebels take on Austin Pea on Wednesday before their SEC home opening series this weekend with Arkansas.
