Oxford Intermediate School kicked off its annual Go Jim Go! Fall service project this week, which raises money for LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.

There are two ways to support the project, through monetary donations online and through two Domino’s Pizza “Dough Raisers” taking place all day Tuesday and all day Sept. 25. Carol Trott, the organizer of the project, said this year is about more than fundraising – it’s about creating better citizens.

“Our monetary goal is $2,500, but the other goal we have is to incorporate ‘Charger PRIDE’ in our students – Proud, Respectable, Kind, Dependable and Safe,” Trott said. “We’re stressing those qualities and talking about how to be kind to others.”

On Tuesday and on Sept. 5, everyone who orders Domino’s Pizza and mentions Oxford Intermediate School will have a portion of their order donated to LeBonheur for a total of 20 percent of the day’s proceeds.

Students will also be able to donate $1 for “Hat Day” on these days, bending dress code rules and getting to wear a hat of their choice for the entire school day. There is also a classroom competition, Trott said, and the class with the most donations will receive a donut party courtesy of the OIS Parent-Teacher Organization.

Meteorologist and service project namesake Jim Jaggers of WREG will visit OIS on Friday, Sept. 14 to celebrate with students and pick up their donation before taking it, along with donations from other schools, to the hospital.

“We have a lot of students who have been at LeBonheur, or know someone who’s been there,” Trott said. “It’s not just people in Memphis; we’re reaching out to people in Oxford that use it, too.”
