WATER VALLEY – Water Valley continued to stay hot as the temperatures begin to cool off.

The Blue Devils remained perfect in Region 2-3A with a 41-6 win over region newcomer Coahoma AHS at Blue Devil Field on Friday.

The Blue Devil offense got on the scoreboard early and often, the first strike coming on a 15-yard run by Martavius Rockett. After a strong defensive stand, including significant hits from Blue Devil defensive workhorses Paris Yates and Ja’varius Benson the Blue Devils would get the ball back at midfield to start their third drive of the game.

Water Valley (6-3, 3-0 2-3A) would close out the 50-yard drive when Ty Varner found Jayvon Morgan on a 28-yard strike that would give them a two-score lead over the Tigers. The momentum favored the Blue Devils and Coahoma (1-8, 0-3) would struggle to connect offensively. The Blue Devils would get the ball back and again score, this time Ty Varner found Bud Tolbert for a 15-yard touchdown that gave Water Valley a hefty 20-point lead with plenty of time left in the half.

Head Coach Brad Embry was extremely pleased of his team and an excited post game speech praised his team’s ability to execute their game plan.

“We were firing on all cylinders; the offense was clicking and I am really proud of how we prepped going into this game and we did what needed to be done. It wasn’t perfect but we only let up six points and got out with a win.”

The Blue Devils would not concede those six points until late in the third quarter, but at that point, they had the game well in hand.

Water Valley would score four touchdowns in the second quarter, one being a Tay Rucker run from 8-yards out. Another being a catch and run from Tolbert, juking his defender and beating him to the outside for his second score of the game.

The second half consisted of a much slower pace from the Blue Devils and multiple turnovers on both sides. The Blue Devils turned to the ground attack for most the half. Water Valley’s defense would continue to hold strong the rest of the game, deflecting multiple passes, forcing turnovers, and most importantly securing the Blue Devil lead.

With an undefeated regional record, Water Valley will look to cement a playoff berth when they travel to Independence (4-5, 1-2) next Friday.
