The worst mass shooting in United States history. We can hardly get those words out.

But that’s what happened in Las Vegas Sunday night, as at least 50 people were killed and over 400 wounded during a music festival when star Jason Aldean was on the stage.

To say this is a tragedy is a gross understatement.

Law enforcement officials responded incredibly quickly, isolating and then killing the suspect, identified as Stephen Paddock, but not before the heartbreaking and shocking damage was done.

We repeat: It was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

Just last year, 49 people were killed in a nightclub shooting in Orlando. It’s hard to imagine in such a short time that tragedy has been eclipsed with another.

It makes us wonder how safe any big public gathering is these days. If someone is deranged enough, they will find a way.

The shooter wasn’t in the crowd among other concert goers, either. He was firing from across the street, inside a room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, raining down bullets on the innocent with no regard for life.

We are heartbroken for the families who lost loved ones. We are heartbroken for survivors who are traumatized. And, we are heartbroken for our nation.
