Oxonian favors school bond that includes funding for the arts

I am a life-long citizen of Oxford and a product of Oxford school systems.  I am now retired and my children have been out of school for years now.  However, I do support the School Bond Issue with the following caveat:  It must include funds for the theater and arts programs at the high school!

When the funds ran out from the previous bond issue, it left a glaring void in what is being offered in the high school.  Anyone who has ever attended just one of the incredible theater productions of Oxford High School knows full well what an asset this program provides.

I attended the alumni performance last Saturday night and got to see a stage full of alumni who had come from all over the country to perform for their idol, the genius, John Davenport! To see the talent and dedication of the graduates who paid their own way to return for the show, was remarkable.

The theater program gives confidence and presence to not only the super talented, but to the marginal student who never had an outlet.  I have seen those students grow into outgoing, confident performers and later as productive citizens of their communities. Theater and the arts are vital to our town.  It is part of who we are.

Therefore, you have my vote for this new bond issue even though it means my taxes increase, but ONLY if it included funding for these vital programs.
