Books and movies aren’t the only things you can check out from libraries now.

Beginning last week, the Lafayette  County & Oxford Public Library, along with five others in association with the First Regional Library system, now have a selection of video games from which to choose from as well.

“Our libraries in Hernando, Oxford, Batesville, Senatobia and Tunica will have about 50 games to start,” said David Brown, the Public Relations Specialist for First Regional Library. “A committee of FRL staff selected these titles to make sure each collection has a nice variety of games for our patrons to sample.”

The games available for rental will be on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 systems. Up to two games can be checked out for a seven-day period.

The games are free to checkout for any FRL member who is 18 years or older. There will be a $1 fine for overdue games for each day that it is late.

Five of the 14 FRL branches will be housing the games, but they can be sent anywhere.

“Just like our process with books, movies, and audiobooks, our patrons can search for the video games in our online catalog, place a hold, and have the game sent to their local branch,” Brown said.

In the future, more branches will have their own collections if this program proves to be popular.
