Possibly the worst elevators in Oxford

Published 10:37 am Tuesday, October 25, 2016

I would like to deplore the condition of the two elevators that lead to the Oxford University Club and 20 lawyers’ offices. They are simply dirty and unhealthy and, in my opinion as a physician, a danger to the people who use them.

They are almost always filled with smoke and there are cigarette butts on the floor. The glass ceilings are filled with bugs and spiderwebs.

My wife and I belong to the Oxford Rotary Club, and our appetites are simply swept away by using these elevators. I have spoken to Steve Ash at least six times, and he says they are cleaning the floors.

Nothing has improved.

The elevators simply stink. I have observed drunken students doing things in the elevator that I would not mention in mixed company. Someone should get on their hands and knees and scrub the floors in and around these elevators.

I am concerned that food is being transported in them to the Oxford University Club.

I have spoken to Jorja Lynn and she told me that it was not her business to write letters to the building owners. She said further that she does not ride the elevators because they don’t work half the time. She told me she walked up the 92 flights of stairs at the Twin Towers in New York City before they were destroyed.

I am sending a copy of this letter to the Lafayette Board of Health and the Mississippi State Board of Health. Please let me encourage people who use these elevators to encourage the owners of the building to express their concerns about the state of the elevators.
