Jeremy Massie has been named as a coordinator of operations for the Ole Miss baseball program, head coach Mike Bianco announced Monday afternoon. After spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant manager, including the 2016 campaign as the Diamond Rebs’ head manager, Massie joins Brett Huber as one of two coordinators of operations for the team.

“Jeremy has been a valuable asset to our program from his two years as one of our pitchers to remaining with the team as a head manager following his playing days,” said Bianco. “He has the heart of a Rebel, and we are excited to elevate him to this new position.”

In his new role, Massie will perform a variety of operational duties that include: overseeing the ordering of equipment and apparel, coordinating team meals and assisting with team travel.

“I’m excited to continue working with the best staff in the country,” said Massie “When I stepped onto campus as a student-athlete, I fell in love with Ole Miss and the coaching staff.  I’m grateful for the opportunity that Coach Bianco has given me to join his staff, and I will continue to learn from him and the rest of the coaches.”

Massie served as the Rebels’ head equipment manager last season, overseeing four other managers. He led in the set-up of the field for practices and games, produced pitching performance summaries and kept inventory of all equipment. Massie also assisted the coordinator of operations in purchasing equipment, setting up reservations and check in procedures at hotels as well as helping with Ernie LaBarge Bullpen Club activities. Before becoming the head manager, Massie was a manager during the 2015 season, his first as a graduate assistant.

Coaching start
In the summer of 2015, Massie became the pitching coach of the Waterloo Bucks of the Collegiate Wooden Bat League. The former Rebel southpaw managed the team’s pitching staff, threw batting practice and assisted the head coach in game decisions.

Massie was a two-year letterwinner for the Rebels, holding a career 4-4 record on the mound with a 2.75 ERA. As a senior, he helped lead Ole Miss to its first College World Series appearance in 42 years; the Sardis, Mississippi, native pitched in 21 games, going 4-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 63.2 innings. He made a pair of appearances in Omaha, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings against national runner-up Virginia. In his first year on campus, Massie posted a 2.92 ERA in 19 outings spanning 24.2 innings. Prior to arriving at Ole Miss, Massie spent two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College as an all-state pitcher.

While completing his duties as the Rebels’ head manager, Massie earned his Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications in May 2016. He also earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ole Miss in 2014 as a General Studies major. With a 3.5 GPA, Massie was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
