The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, the award-winning, Oxford-based music and literature program, is headed to Clinton. The show will present a live performance on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Clinton High School. Guests will include cartoonist/author Marshall Ramsey, Clinton native bluesman Eddie Cotton Jr. and singer/songwriter Claire Holley.
The show is hosted by Oxford writer, Jim Dees, and the Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers, featuring Memphis guitarist, John Paul Keith.
Now in its 18th year, The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour’s broadcast home is Off Square Books, a bookstore on the Oxford Square. During the summer, the show hits the road and this will mark the program’s first visit to Clinton. Thacker producer Kathryn York says the show’s cast and crew is excited to make the trip.
“We’re delighted to meet new friends in Clinton,” she said. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to spread appreciation for Mississippi culture and look forward to a special night.”
Thacker host Jim Dees says Clinton is a “Thacker kind of town. Like so many places in Mississippi, Clinton has a deep music and literature tradition from Eddie Cotton to Barry Hannah. We’re proud to help them represent.”
