With summer in full swing, you may be wondering if there is anything artsy to do in Oxford. Well, the answer is definitely yes.

Gallery owners and arts groups are taking advantage of the slower pace to show art of all types in their venues. Here is a brief lineup of what you can see over the next few weeks.

The Oxford Maker’s Market has scheduled two evening arts markets this summer, one of which was held last night at the Armory Pavilion at the corner of University Avenue and Bramlett Boulevard. If you missed it, do not fret as there will be another one July 20, which is another Wednesday night, and the location will be the same.

Expect wares from about 25 vendors, live music, plenty of activities for the children, food trucks and much more.

The Pavilion is proving to be a great asset to our community as it has become a popular place on Tuesdays at the Oxford City Farmers’ Market and has hosted other fun events. This will be a market to bring the family and enjoy the best of Oxford’s arts and crafts scene. More details will be coming as we get closer to the date.

Make sure you put the monthly Art Crawl on your list as Tuesday, June 28 will be the next one.

North Light Gallery will have a pop-up photography exhibit at The Edison and artist reception, and many venues will also be on the agenda for the evening including the Powerhouse which is currently “housing” an exhibit of birdhouses to benefit Habitat for Humanity in Oxford. The houses are made by local artists and are made from various materials including wood, mosaics, copper, stones and other natural materials. Some are traditional and some are delightfully whimsical.

Buying a birdhouse will benefit a good cause and make a great gift to the feathered creatures in your backyard. The birdhouses are already up in the Powerhouse gallery and the show, Photography Near and Far, is currently hanging in the North Light Gallery at the Orchard Church located at 295 Highway 7 North. It features photographers Amanda Carper and Susan Schove Phillips. Phillips has some breathtaking shots of a trip she took to Cuba and Carpers work focuses on local scenes around Oxford.

The hours at the gallery are Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 9-11 a.m.

Southside Gallery is celebrating the season with their current show, Summer Landscape Exhibition, which is on view in the downstairs gallery until July 9.

The exhibit features work by Allie Billmeyer, Neil Callander, Alice Connolly, Avery Cordray, Ansley Givhan, Phillip R. Jackson, Mia Kaplan, Daniel Kelly, Chatham Kemp, Lucius Lamar, Terry Lynn, Laura Magbee, Robert Malone, Nicole Rottler, Brooke White, Claire Whitehurst, Carlyle Wolfe and Susan Woodard.

In the Upstairs Gallery, Hannah Spears has curated a show, A Large but Finite Number, featuring work by photographer Jason Cimon and sculptor Lauren Peterson.
