Summer can be innovative

A week-long adventure starts Monday for local students in first through sixth grade.
Camp Invention will be at Oxford Intermediate School, and it will be a weeklong adventure for young inventive minds that will be able to go hands-on with problem-solving and using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Creating a new generation of STEM-oriented students benefits an entire community, and the nice part about the camp and the way many STEM teachers teach in our local schools, is the children often don’t even realize they are learning because they are having so much fun.
Starting Monday campers will enjoy CrickoBot, where they will construct and personalize a solar-powered cricket and a unique habitat; Epic Park, where they will work in teams to design an eco-adventure park; I Can Invent: Maker Studio, where they can brainstorm product ideas and build original prototypes using real tools and everyday devises; and the Lab: Where Pigs Fly, where they get to learn the science of slime, demolition, electronic sound, giant squid and coding.
We’re glad Camp Invention is coming to Oxford and giving our children some fun new ways to learn that they can hopefully keep with them for years to come.
