A tree fell onto a major circuit on Church Street about an hour ago causing a large power outage on the west side of town. Oxford Electric Department Superintendent Rob Neely said crews are working to restore power.

“It knocked out power to a large number of customer,” he said at 9:30 this evening.

Traffic lights are out in several intersections along West Jackson Avenue from the old mall down to Heritage Drive. The Oxford Police Department warns drivers to use caution.
