OHS swim teams claim second in Oxford Invitational

The Oxford high swim team hosted the 2015 Oxford Invitational at the Oxford City Pool Saturday morning. Nine schools competed in the event with Tupelo’s boys and girls teams sweeping the meet.
On the girls’ side Tupelo racked up 191 points, 73 points ahead of second place Oxford (118) and Cleveland rounded out the top three with 64 points.
The Lady Chargers claimed first and second place in the Girls 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Kate Byars, Anna Dennis, Elizabeth Field and Kate Sudduth won first while teammates Maggie Sudduth, Cakie Field, Noel Torma and Mary Marshall Waller earned the silver medal.
Other notable girls results included a second place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay with the team of Byars, Dennis, Kate Sudduth and Mary Victoria Sullivan. The team of Field, Byars, Sullivan and Lucy Chiniche earned second in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay.
Field claimed second place in the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard Freestyle while Chiniche claimed third in the 500 yard Freestyle.
Tupelo’s boys team paced the field with a 205 point performance, earning them first place. Oxford came in a distant second with 95 points with Hernando earning third with 69.5 points.
Jacob Nichols earned first place for the Chargers in the 100 yard Breaststroke and 200 yard Individual Medley.
In the 200 yard Medley Relay the team of Nichols, Andrew Brown, Isaac Manly and Cole More claimed second place. Manly, Nichols, Moore and Jeffery Wang won third in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay.
Manly claimed third place in the 50 yard Freestyle.
