Former resident grateful for building’s new use

Old friends in Oxford have sent me copies of your stories on the sale of “the law office” on Jackson Avenue, the building where my father, Phil Stone, and my grandfather, General Stone, practiced law for many years. I have happy childhood memories of time spent there, especially when I was at Oxford Elementary, then just down the street. After school I would walk to the office and usually get a little money from my father to go get a snack at Morgan’s 10-cent store on the west side of the Square before he and I walked home later in the afternoon.
Rather like Joyce Freeland, when I heard the building was for sale, I would not have been surprised if it had ended up as a bar. I don’t have any in principle objection to bars, but I’m so happy to learn that instead it will have a public use that will be valuable to the community of Oxford. I hope that this use of the building continues indefinitely.
Hello also to all old friends there!
