The origins of Room2Room Movers are rooted in a response to an unexpected challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brooks Fuller, the owner of the new moving company, had just wrapped up his sophomore baseball season at Auburn University when the pandemic forced the sudden shutdown of campus. As college students left their dorms in a rush, many left behind their personal belongings, not knowing when they would be able to return for them.
Fuller, along with his brother, Brady, and his mother, Lori, saw an opportunity to help students and their families by offering a service to retrieve and return their belongings.
A few weeks later – Auburn students were shipping their dorm keys to the Fullers’ house. With Auburn’s permission, the Fuller brothers put on masks and gloves, and entered into each dorm room to pack up and ship the items home to their owners across the country.
What began as a small, no-cost operation serving Auburn students during the summer of 2020 quickly grew into a full-fledged business.
By June 2021, Room2Room Movers was officially launched with its first team of 12 movers.
“We started by helping people in need, and it became clear that there was a real demand for moving services in college towns,” Fuller said “The experience opened my eyes to the opportunities within this space, especially for students who needed a reliable, trustworthy service.”
Since its founding, Room2Room Movers has expanded its services to Oxford.
Whether it’s to move and store items for a week between one lease ends and another starts, or keeping things safe for the summer months until a student returns, Room2Room Movers offers more than just boxes and tape. While college students are their main focus, the moving company will help anyone who needs help with a move.
“People move in and out of this town all the time—students, faculty, and families,” Fuller said. “Our core business is focused on the college community, but we’ve also been able to offer services to homeowners, businesses, and anyone who needs help moving.”
The company’s model revolves around hiring college-aged employees, training them in proper moving techniques, and ensuring they are thoroughly background-checked and drug-tested.
“We want to provide a great service, but we also want to give back to the community,” Fuller said. “By hiring locally and paying taxes that support the city, we’ve created a circular economy. The students who work for us are spending their earnings at local businesses, and families moving in and out of town often shop and dine at local establishments.”
In addition to moving services, Room2Room Movers offers climate-controlled storage options for people needing short-term solutions. They’ll pick up belongings, store them securely, and deliver them when the customer is ready. This service is particularly popular among students with leases ending in the summer but not starting again until the fall.
“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to move,” Fuller said. “Whether it’s a student going home for the summer or a family moving to a new house, we handle all aspects of the move so that they don’t have to worry about it.”
Fuller said his company’s use of technology sets them apart from other moving companies. Clients can book their move online, build an inventory list, and receive an estimate for the cost of the move.
Room2Room Movers, while continuing to grow and expand, remains committed to serving the community and providing jobs to local students.
Fuller said future goals include expanding to other SEC college towns but for now, they’re focusing on growing the company in Auburn and Oxford.
