Communicare is offering free Narcan training this week to all community members.
The training will occur at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Highpoint Lounge, inside Myers Apothecary at 653 Concordia Avenue in Oxford.
Attendees will receive free Narcan kits to help combat the opioid crisis in their communities.
This training is part of Communicare’s ongoing commitment to opioid overdose prevention and education. Narcan (naloxone) is a life-saving medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses, providing critical time for medical intervention.
This event is open to the public and aims to equip individuals, families and organizations with the knowledge and tools needed to address the growing opioid epidemic.
Emily Presley, BSN, CPSS, Narcan Trainer, and Opiate Overdose Awareness Peer Support Specialist
with Communicare, emphasized the importance of these efforts.
“The availability of free Narcan in our communities is vital due to the rise of a very lethal opioid known as fentanyl,” she said. “The opioid crisis affects everyone, and having Narcan on hand could mean saving the life of a family member, friend or neighbor.”
In addition to Narcan training, Communicare offers a wide range of free mental health-related training opportunities designed to support individuals and organizations. These sessions include Mental Health First Aid for youth and adults, suicide prevention, autism awareness, domestic violence intervention, trauma-informed care and more. Communicare collaborates with churches, school boards, civic organizations and other groups to provide customized training tailored to their specific needs.
