The Oxford Board of Aldermen approved the revised Oxford Design Guidelines during their regular meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.
Kate Kenwright, a planner with the city of Oxford, presented the updated guidelines to the Board for their consideration.
“We are very happy with the final outcome,” Kenwright said.
The revisions were funded through a Fiscal Year 2023 matching grant from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the city of Oxford. Each contributed $7,500 toward the $15,000 project.
Integrity Consulting partnered with the city and MDAH to complete the update, which included expanded chapters addressing the appropriateness of modern materials and technologies, clearer demolition guidelines, and additional graphics and photos.
The changes aim to make the guidelines easier for applicants and professionals to navigate.
Public input was gathered from residents, design professionals, and the city’s two historic preservation commissions during the process.
The updated guidelines will be available online by the start of the new year at www.oxfordms.net.
