The University of Mississippi School of Business Administration is taking 30 students on a career trek to Nashville to meet potential employers and connect with alumni in the area.
The trip will take place Feb. 19-21 and the students will have the opportunity to meet with companies such as Oracle, Nissan, Dell Technologies, Insight Global, and Frazier & Deeter.
“This year, we are visiting industry-leading organizations that already executed a mutually beneficial valuable partnership with the Ole Miss School of Business,” said Tyler Meisenheimer, business connect program director. “Students will receive a first-class introduction to sales, marketing, technology, and finance opportunities.”
Founded in 2018, the mission of the Business Connect program is to build long-term value-adding partnerships with industry-leading companies by learning about their talent needs and matching them with qualified UM students. The students are encouraged to engage in multiple conversations with business representatives and further develop their networking skills.
“As a Nashville native, and Ole Miss alumni, I am eager to make this trip extremely impactful for students,” said Izzy Meffe, talent acquisition specialist at Insight Global and 2021 UM graduate. “Insight Global has historically had immense success recruiting Ole Miss Rebels, and I see that success growing in the years to come. Not only will students receive a tour of our Nashville office, we will also be providing workshops with our top sales leaders.”
In the last five years, the UM School of Business has provided students with the opportunity to travel to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and Atlanta. Over 150 students have found jobs and internships through the program.
“I gained confidence in my ability to navigate professional settings,” said Worth DuPerier, a senior general business major from Oxford, Mississippi, who is also double majoring in sports management and entrepreneurship, who attended the Atlanta trek. “I look forward to gaining more professional insight on the upcoming trek and securing a full-time job after traveling to Nashville.”
This program allows students to learn the ropes of the business world and get a different point of view. By visiting top companies, and meeting industry professionals, these students are better prepared to take steps towards their next goals in their professional journey.
