The Lafayette County Fire Department responded to two unrelated house fires on Sunday, November 17.
The first call came at 5:46 a.m. for a fire on County Road 244. Dispatch reported flames in the lower level and attic of the home. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on one side of the house and throughout the attic. All occupants had evacuated safely.
Crews worked to access and extinguish the attic fire by pulling down sections of the ceiling. Eight minutes into the operation, concerns about a possible roof collapse prompted the evacuation of all personnel. Firefighters shifted to a defensive approach, fighting the fire from the outside. No injuries were reported. The response included multiple fire engines, a tanker, and 18 firefighters.
At 10:23 p.m., the department was called to another structure fire on County Road 316. Flames were reported in the back and side of the home. All occupants evacuated safely.
Firefighters entered the house through the front door and extinguished flames in the laundry room and bedroom. Crews also removed portions of the ceiling to address fire in the attic. One resident was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi with minor injuries.
The response involved 18 firefighters and multiple fire units.
