Oxford man arrested for first-degree murder

Update: The victim has been identified by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office as Angela Cohan James, 53, who was Slack’s caretaker. Slack reportedly had dementia.

 

An Oxford man was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday night.

According to the Oxford Police Department, at 6:48 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Herman Drive for a possible shooting.

Despite life-saving measures by the officers, the Oxford Fire Department and EMS, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Herman Slack, 89, of Oxford was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.

According to property records, Slack lives at 209 Herman Drive.

OPD has not yet released the name of the victim.
