Oxford man charged with robbery, aggravated assault after hotel shooting

The Oxford Police Department has arrested one individual in connection with a recent robbery and shooting at a local hotel.

On Sunday, officers responded to a call reporting gunshots in a hotel room. Officers cleared the room

but found no one inside. They were shortly notified that a victim had arrived at the emergency department at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

According to reports, several individuals were in the hotel room. A confrontation occurred, during which a suspect demanded money and brandished a firearm. A struggle ensued leading to gunshots being fired. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, officers on patrol located the suspect, Christopher Suggs Jr., 18, of Oxford, and took him into custody without incident.

Suggs was charged with Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault.

“I’m incredibly proud of the diligent work of our officers and investigators. Thanks to their dedication and quick action, we were able to bring this case to a resolution in less than 48 hours. Their commitment to keeping our community safe is evident in the way they handled this investigation,” said OPD Chief Jeff McCutchen.
