Oxford ‘witches’ ready to take flight for fun, good cause

The Witches Ride is flying in with a magical twist this year.
Started in 2023, the Witches Ride event helps to raise money for The Pantry, Oxford’s emergency food bank.
This year’s event will happen at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 around the downtown Square.
The cost to ride in the parade is $50. Golf carts can be reserved for $200.
Last year’s event raised more than $8,000.
In addition to raising money for Pantry from the entry fee, the parade committee has given Stronger Together Oxford the green light to collect pantry donations from parade watchers.
At the parade’s grand finale, witches will be strolling alongside the jazz funeral carriage (courtesy of Gammel Enterprises LLC), collecting donations from the crowd. Just hand over your pantry goodies, and in return, our witches will bestow you with a treat.
Parade watchers are encouraged to bring items like can openers, cooking oil, spices, and seasonal goodies like soups and crackers.
“Thanks to the parade coordinators, this year’s ride lets everyone in on the fun of giving back,” said Stronger Together Executive Director Marlee Carpenter. “It’s an incredible opportunity for the whole community to participate and support the pantry, which volunteers and donations sustain. It’s our way of reminding everyone that even small donations can cast a big spell of change.”
Registration is open to ladies age 18+. Gather your coven, dust off the cobwebs from your magic broom (aka bike), and dress as your favorite witch to ride through downtown Oxford, spreading some Halloween cheer – and candy.
