Fingers crossed, work on the future improvements to the Highway 7 and University Avenue interchange will begin soon.
Road work signs showed up along the interchange on Monday.
Oxford Mayor Robyn Tannehill said on Tuesday that the Mississippi Department of Transportation notified the city that they are expected to begin moving in equipment by the end of the week.
“They should be getting started soon,” Tannehill said during the Board of Aldermen meeting. “Which means everyone will be mad at us within the next two weeks.”
The project is being funded by Oxford, Lafayette County and MDOT, along with appropriations and grants from the Mississippi Legislature.
Any expenses that exceed all state-appropriated and designated funds and funds contributed by the city and county, will be paid by MDOT.
