The Oxford Board of Aldermen approved the demolition of three structures on Gater Road and applied the cost as a lien on the property.
The three structures are located at 12 Gater Road, off Highway 6 East, and were once the property of the late John Robert Gater Sr.
Building Official Johnathan Mizell said the city notified Gater’s heirs of the proposed demolition via certified letters in June and informed them about the hearing on July 2 during the Board’s regular meeting.
Mizell said he had not received any responses from the heirs.
He said the city made the determination that the structures – two mobile homes and a block structure – were deemed to be dangerous, unsafe and unfit for human habitation in November 2023.
A shed is also on the property but was not part of the demolition request.
None of the structures have had any working utilities since 2013.
The city received three quotes from contractors for the demolition. The lowest and best bid was for $9,500 from Demolition Specialists.
The Board approved the quote and voted to assess the property for the cost of demolition as a lien on the property.
