With the 1949 filming of Intruder in the Dust there were movie stars on the Square.
Among them was the day’s heartthrob, Claude Jarman, Jr. For a publicity shot, he posed with Norma Glynn Tatum at Avent’s Drug Store on the Square. Her friends were all very jealous.
Later, Jarman walked down to Cofield’s Studio for a portrait. He signed it to my grandparents.
He is still alive and we have enjoyed a correspondence. A Southerner, he has nothing but fond memories of his time in Oxford.
