Lafayette softball season comes to a close

The Lafayette Commodores softball team dropped a hard-fought game to Corinth 11-9 in extra innings on Friday in the 5A North Half Championship game.
Lafayette’s (25-11) starter Sydney Cregar took the circle against Corinth and didn’t allow a run through the second inning.
Corinth (22-6) got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the third inning.
The Commodores gained the lead in the fourth inning as they scored three runs and two more runs in the fifth to go up 5-2.
In the seventh, Corinth plated five runs to take a 7-5 advantage over Lafayette.
Cregar worked 6.0 plus innings and allowed six runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Lafayette brought Mabry Eason to the circle in the seventh. Eason worked 2.0 innings and surrendered four runs on three hits with a walk and no strikeouts.
Lafayette scored two runs in the seventh that knotted the game at 7-7.
Corinth scored four runs in the eighth to make it 11-7 and Lafayette scored two runs in the bottom of the frame for the final score of 11-9.
The Commodores were led at the plate by Eason who finished the game going 4-for-5 with a triple on two runs scored and an RBI. Her teammate Braleigh Crowe was right behind her who went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Lafayette’s season came to a close in the North Half Championship series of the 5A state playoffs.
