Lafayette sweeps Holmes County Central on Friday

The Lafayette Commodores put on an offensive display to sweep Holmes County Central on Friday in the first round of the playoffs.

Game 1

In the first game, Lafayette (21-7) defeated Holmes County Central 23-1 by run-rule in two innings.

Lafayette came out hot in the first scoring 12 runs on five extra base hits by Houston Morgan who doubled and tripled in the frame that scored three runs, Sam Rikard tripled and singled in the inning scoring five runs, Foster Crockett hit an inside the park home run that plated two runs and Tanner Harris doubled that brought home two more runs.

Richard finished the game going 2-for-2 with a triple, a run scored and five RBIs.

Holmes County Central answered in the top of the second with their lone run of the game.

The Commodores were not finished as they scored 11 more runs in the second on a hit by pitch, three walks, a hit into a fielder’s choice by Taylor John and three singles off the bats of Collin Waldrip, Ian Mayo and Alan Hughes.

Lafayette’s left handed pitcher Levi Hamm earned the win working 2.0 innings while surrendering a run (unearned) on no hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Game 2

Lafayette defeated Holmes County Central 11-0 in the second game.

Lafayette (22-7)started out on fire in the second game, by scoring five runs in the first. Jack East got the scoring started by bringing in the first run on a sacrifice fly, then Rikard singled that scored a run, Collin Waldrip drew a walk in the frame that scored a run and a run came in on a passed ball.

In the second inning, the Commodores added a run on a pass ball to make it 6-0.

Lafayette tacked on four more runs in the third after singles by Waldrip, Campbell Atkinson, Allan Hughes, Javion Mitchell and a hit sacrifice fly by Balin Bishop that each scored a run.

The Commodores Waller Smith picked up the win over Holmes County Central after working two innings of scoreless baseball and not giving up a hit. Smith allowed no walks and retired five by strikeout.

Lafayette brought Nick Kagey to the mound for two innings of scoreless work with no hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

In the fifth, Jake Melton held Holmes County Central at bay with no runs and a hit with three strikeouts.
