Regents School of Oxford’s JV Track and Field teams completed their regular season schedule on Friday, April 12, taking second place team honors for the girls and winning the MAIS District 1AAA boys district title.

In the field, Carter Bell placed first in the triple jump for the Lions. Henry Edwards and Pierce  Case won first in the high jump and long jump respectively.

Jagger Snead finished second in long jump. John Warner Alford took first in discus and second in shot put to secure important points for Regents in the field.

On the track, Pierce Case took first in the 100 meter, Will Hopson and David Smith placed first and second in the 800 meters, and Smith finished first in the 1600 meters.

The boys relay team of Carter Bell, Pierce Case, Ben Reed, and Jagger Sneed won first place in the 4×200 followed by the team of Charles Bryan, Henry Edwards, Will Hopson, and David Smith winning first place in the 4×800.

Regents and DeSoto School provided exciting racing all the way to the finish line in the 4X400. The team of Ben Reed, Carter Bell, Jagger Sneed, Pierce Case wrapped up the championship with a 4×400 first-place finish to secure the victory.

Maggie McClendon started things off in the field for the girls’ team with first place in high jump.  Regents girls moved to the track with a 20-point deficit behind defending champions,  DeSoto School.

The Regents girls got championship performances from their relay teams of Mary Charles Beckett, Nila Vae Cochet, Pearson Cochet, and Selah Meurrier winning the 4×400, and Mary Charles Beckett, Anna Magee, Maggie McClendon, Selah Meurrier in the 4×800.

Pearson Cochet secured first place in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Keeping it in the family, Nila Vae Cochet finished first in the 400-meter dash.

Mary Charles Beckett and  Selah Meurrier took first and second in the 800-meter, and Beckett would also take first in the  1600-meter race. The Regents girls closed the gap to just six points and finished in second place for District 1AAA.

“Coach Pearson and I are extremely proud of how both teams competed today. It is a blessing to watch these kids use their God-given talents. It was truly a team effort. We had several athletes injured coming into the meet or during the day and everyone contributed to this success,” said Coach Brandon Beckett.

Regents will continue the season this week in the 1-AAA Varsity District meet.
