On March 22, Lafayette County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on County Road 520 regarding an unresponsive infant male child.

When deputies, EMS and the Lafayette County Fire Department all arrived on scene, life-saving measures were immediately initiated by the first responders.

The child was swiftly transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis for further medical attention. He later died at the hospital.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. After an extensive investigation, Matthew Brown, 23, was arrested and charged April 4 with capital murder in connection to this case.

Sheriff Joey East expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the child.

“Our hearts go out to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case and will continue to work tirelessly to bring closure to the family.”
