Oxford Chargers fall to the Hernando Tigers

The Oxford Chargers fall to the Hernando Tigers 8-6 at home on Tuesday.
Oxford (14-7) used an aggressive base running with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to try to tie the game up. The Chargers cut a four-run deficit down to two runs as Brock Siskey scored on a single by Thomas Rayburn. A few pitches later Sam Roy came in on a pass ball to make it 8-6 Hernando.
Oxford got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first as Reid Kent who singled to center and came home on a pass ball a few batters later.
Hernando tied the game up at 1-1 in the third inning.
Oxford’s Barrett Kamman got the start on the mound against Hernando. Kamman worked 2.2 innings and allowed a run on three hits with a walk.
The Chargers then brought Hayes Huggins into the game in relief. Huggins tossed 3.1 innings and surrendered two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
The Chargers regained the lead in the home half of the third inning on a base knock to center by Rayburn that scored two runs. Oxford went up 3-1 over the Tigers.
In the fourth, Oxford added an additional run on a pass ball as Sammy Greene came in to score. Oxford was up 4-1 over Hernando.
Hernando got a two-run home run in the fifth to cut the Chargers lead to 4-3.
In the seventh, Oxford sent Robert Upchurch to the hill to face the Tigers. Upchurch worked 0.1 inning allowing five runs on four hits with one strikeout.
Hernando scored five runs in the seventh on three singles and a ground out to take an 8-4 lead over Oxford.
Oxford brought Kent to the bump and recorded an out in his outing before turning the ball over to Jack Gaia. Gaia recorded the final out of the seventh.
Oxford will take the field against Hernando on Thursday at Hernando. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
