Granddad Cofield said more than once that he missed the old Saturdays on the Courthouse lawn.
It was carnival-like for the kids. The weather, the fishing, and politics dominated the talk. And real businessmen made real deals there on those old benches.
Wagons rolled in, loaded up and then headed for the long roll back to their spread and stead in the county. As the years went by the truck farmers took their place in Southern history as they brought their crops in for the ladies to pick over.
Granddad said back in the day a good melon was a dime and he bought many. And he missed the market when it was gone.
