Oxford Chargers baseball beat Lewisburg Patriots

The Oxford Chargers defeated the Lewisburg Patriots 4-2 on Thursday night at home.
Oxford (13-6) jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first as Carson Schmelzer doubled to center field.
Schmelzer finished the night going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
The Chargers sent Brady Stinnett to the mound to face the Lewisburg Patriots. Stinnett kept Lewisburg off the scoreboard through the first four innings.
Lewisburg tied the game in the fifth on two triples and two singles.
The Chargers untied the game on a solo home run in the fifth off the bat of Jack Harper to left field. Oxford took a 3-2 advantage over Lewisburg.
In the sixth, Oxford added a run to make it 4-2.
Stinnett worked 6.1 innings to pick up the win allowing two runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Oxford turned to the bullpen for Robert Upchurch in the seventh with one out and runners on second and first for Lewisburg. Upchurch loaded the bases on a hit-by-pitch, but got out of the inning on a grounder to second baseman Brady Maloney, who stepped on second base and threw to first for a game-ending double play.
Oxford and Lewisburg will play the second game of the home and home on Saturday at Lewisburg. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
