The iconic Four Corners location of Abner’s Famous Chicken, a staple in Oxford’s culinary landscape since 1993, has closed its doors. The restaurant’s last day was Sunday, Nov. 19.

“Given the rich history of Abner’s, the decision to close this location was a difficult one,” said Kirk Cotham, current co-owner of Abner’s. “We are grateful to our staff and the many loyal customers that have shared so many memories in the restaurant.”

Abner White, who ran the original site for 26 years before selling it in 2019, shared his sentiments on the closure. “The new owners hoped to bring back the success we saw in the ’90s and early 2000s,” White stated. He reflected on the years of success, attributing much of it to the hardworking and dedicated employees, many of whom still reside in Oxford.

In a heartfelt acknowledgment, White expressed his gratitude towards his former staff. “I am incredibly thankful to these folks… many of which still live in Oxford. Thank you(!) to those who worked hard to raise up the brand and made me look good as a young business owner,” he said.

The closure marks the end of a notable chapter for Abner’s in Oxford, but the brand’s legacy continues with 10 other locations across Mississippi and Tennessee. White extended his gratitude to the Oxford community. “Thank you Oxford for supporting the Abner’s brand for 30 years. I am forever grateful,” he said.
